Customer Reviews

Best easel in my academic experience; sturdy and practical Great multipurpose easel. Working a major research university, I assemble and disassemble a lot of easels (aluminum, wood, telescoping legs, hollow legs with elastic cords) for poster sessions. Posters are clamped to a 3x4-foot piece of corrugated cardboard. I ordered 50 easels for the engineering department. This easel was surprisingly sturdy, with two corrugated creases lengthwise down each for extra strength. The top extension has a spring-loaded clamp for stretched canvas, but the clamp worked great with the thinner poster board. To support the bottom of the poster , we used the hook option rather than the tray, but either method would have worked. The telescoping legs were engineered for quick set up and adjustment. The carry back is convenient, and the easel folds down to a surprisingly small size. The almost comparable Quartet easel to this one costs almost $50 on Amazon. I say comparable, not similar, as that easel (and I've set up many of them) is not as sturdy as this model. 5Cheap but works. Eh, you get what you pay for. I bought this because I was taking a drawing class and didn't want to buy a pricey easel that I may not use much after the class ends. Not especially sturdy and definitely not for tall people. I'm 5'4" and it barely puts my paper at eye level. Better to use table top or on non-slippery floors. The feet slide on a wood floor, so the legs have to be at their widest, making it impossible to increase the height. Still, inexpensive and gets the job done and easily stowed away in the little bag, so four stars from me. 4and this easel was the best thing I ever invested in I teach paint parties for a living..... and this easel was the best thing I ever invested in!!! It's super portable and easy to set up. The metal bracket piece slips off from time to time, but I think perhaps bringing a screwdriver with me to tighten while on site, might easily remedy that. LOVE IT. 5Excellent for display which is just what I needed - ... Excellent for display which is just what I needed - easy to adjust for table or floor - easy to store & carry - NOT for heavy or oversized canvas. for painting I recommended a sturdier easel for studio work, these are lightweight so not for outdoor/breezes. I had one and bought 4 more for 'open studio visit & sales'. 4Some troubleshooting for other people's issues... (I love it, btw) Sturdier than I expected. The people who said it is flimsy must have a heavy hand; it is perfectly fine for painting. I'd like to address some things others said:TALL PEOPLE or STANDing folks: Here's an idea. Extend the legs only part way and put it on a table, then it can be as tall as you want it!** Or you can also move the bottom of your painting upwards. Extend the top pole up to its max height, and bring the 'tray' up as high as you need. I'm including a picture (coming soon, sorry) with a tape measure going perpendicular to the floor (not along legs) to show the highest the top and bottom can come up. The top of the extension reaches 61" (5'1") from the floor, and the tray part can go up to about 39.5" from the floor. If height is a concern, measure 39.5" and mark it with pencil on your wall and pretend the bottom of your painting is there or lower.**A great benefit of this one over wooden ones is you can move these legs to ANY height you want, whereas the wood ones I've seen are just two pieces, the height is either floor or table, no in between for kids or my idea of putting it on a table tall. For those who said:"The TRAY/SHELF just RESTS ON HOOKS": You've got the hooks backwards. For display you can rest an item just on the hooks, but to use the tray, loosen the part with the hook (like turning a knob, "right is tight, left is loose") and rotate the hook piece backward so that the little silver screw head is facing you (do both of them)... now see all those pear shaped holes on the tray? Put whichever two you like onto the silver screws and let the tray rest downward onto them. The hook/screw piece can be rotated, and moved up & down, to adjust to wherever you want to put your tray.NOTE: you are NOT supposed to tighten these screws to hold the tray on!! Just aim the bottom of the pear shaped holes over the screw, then let the tray rest downward so the top smaller part of the pear shape is on the screw. This is a common way people mount small shelves onto a wall, etc. After you've got your tray in place, make sure you tighten the hook/screw thingy from the back (where you loosened it before to rotate it backward). Depending on how you have them and how you store the easel, you may not have to do this every time once they're turned and at a height you use often. For those concerned that a "TINY MACHINE SCREW is HOLDING MY VALUABLE/ breakable FRAME"... maybe you can do the reverse of above, foregoing the tray and resting it on the heartier plastic hooks.Remember: you have an OPTION of hooks or tray, by turning the hooks around.Hope this addresses some people's complaints, so that those considering buying this can see there may be a solution to those issues. 5Durable, Affordable, and Small! I was a little iffy about purchasing such a cheap easel for my large sketchbook drawings and heavy canvas paintings, though was pleasantly surprised to find that this easel is VERY durable and can hold my heaviest sketchbooks and canvases without becoming "shaky." I am 6'4" tall and am able to stand comfortably while using this easel and can still use it as a tabletop easel if I'd like. If you are a college art student like me, you can understand how difficult it is to haul around all of your supplies across campus. This easel can completely fold down into a small bag (included) that I can easily fit into my backpack, which doesn't cause a strain on my long walks. I was pleased with the price, durability, and light, compact size of this easel and I strongly recommend it for start-up artists like me and other college students. 5I love this easel WOW SO INEXPENSIVE! I love this easel! So affordable and so durable. Can't find anything comparable at Michaels supply store. If painting is your hobby you'll be happy with this, if painting is your occupation though you will need a more professional, versatile, and sturdy easel for sure. But I paint all weekend ,every weekend , and it's just perfect for me. It's the ideal height for sitting in a normal kitchen chair near a table and painting. Great size for very small canvases, and just as good for any decent average size canvas such as a 18"x24" which is just my preference. Maybe not right for anything much larger than that but you can try. Super lightweight and easily adjustable.-Just move the front legs out or back in and get whatever angle or height makes you comfortable. Perfectly level. Very very convenient when you need to adjust your posture frequently after painting a long time- instead of having to quit youll be able to keep going comfortably- Because it's so simple. It's nice too because it's not big, heavy, or cumbersome in the middle of a room. LOVE ! 5So far so good Very inexpensive and as described. I hope this aluminum art easel will hold up. No instructions were included so I played around with it for a few minutes and it seemed pretty straight. I gave this to my friend who wants to try some painting outdoors and also use indoors as inside all he has is a table and a drawing table which doesn't work for canvases. I like bag it fits into once you fold it up and it has a convenient shoulder strap too for carrying. My friend seemed happy. I expected it to be a bit taller. 5Great for display I ordered two of this easel (to receive free shipping) and after receiving and using them, ordered two more.I can't speak for painting with them, holding heavy items or outdoor use, but for displaying light and even large dry mounted posters, etc. they are perfect. It folds up small, has a carrying case and is very light. Some people mentioned that the base is too wide. The back does stick out some (not much more than any easel), but the front can be adjusted. to make it more narrow if you would like. I sometimes put it in an apx. 1.5 foot area and it works fine. That is indoors, where it won't get knocked over so I don't need to worry too much about having a narrow base. If you have the base wider it will obviously be more stable, but it works fine for me if I need to make it more narrow.I also like that it can be a floor stand or sit on a table and I have used it as both depending on the display location. For my use of holding several large Styrofoam dry-mounted posters it is great. It could hold more weight than that, but I haven't tested it at heavy weights to know how much. I have only used it with the built in holders. I haven't used the tray that I believe could hold even more weight. 5Not great for stability The quirks about this easel certainly weren't enough to warrant returning it, but it's not a flawless integration into my painting system. The bar/clamp system that holds the canvas assumes a standard-width canvas, and I'm having trouble getting a deep canvas to stay in place. Also the third leg lacks a chain or anything chain-like to keep it from sliding back into infinity. Basically when I used it, I have to employ a light touch and definitely try not to bump into it. As another reviewer mentioned, most of this could be avoided by using it in its tabletop capacity, but I want to paint places without tables, too. I really like how small it folds up and am charmed by the fact it has a little bag. I'll probably upgrade in the fullness of time, but it will serve me until then. 3
