Customer Reviews

Kinda Whiney.....I bought this for a family member for Christmas but they didn't like it. The first one or two songs were nice but after that, we kept saying, "is this the last song"? It was long and drawn out. It all sounded the same after the first couple of songs and was not very good. I don't recommend this CD.2WARNING--listening to this album may be habit formingAsk anybody that knows me, I'm not a country music fan. But, after hearing some of the songs from her Fearless album on the radio and really liking them, I took the gamble and bought this album and Fearless. Now I haven't even started listening to Fearless because I can't stop listening to this album! This girl has a real gift for putting powerful emotions into beautiful words and turning it into a catchy tune. EVERY SONG on this album is a jewel. The music is lightly produced, which is perfect because it gives more emphasis to her singing. But don't get me wrong, each of these tunes are extremely catchy. I never realized how good a little twang and a banjo could sound. But the real gem here is the lyrics. She wrote/co-wrote each song. Each of them are from real experiences in her life and it shows. She sings of love, longing, vulnerability, heartbreak and loneliness--things that we can all identify with at some time in our life. She's certainly not the first to sing about those feelings. But she shows real literary and musical genius in being able to tell us these stories of her life in a way which causes us to be right there with her as she lived it and to feel it ourselves. Furthermore, all of her songs, even the saddest ones, come from a position of confidence and optimism that remind us that it's OK to be sad when you don't get the person you want every time, when you are different and don't fit-in, and when someone has hurt you.In summary, Taylor Swift has made me remember how good music can be. Her debut album is like a good book that I hope never ends. This isn't pop candy. Each song deserves to be savored, and if you are anything like me, you won't be able to stop listening and singing along to the songs on this album for a long time.5GreatComes with a digital download to add to a phone or listening device for on the go which is nice. Taylor is part of my childhood so listening to these songs again is some great nostalgia. Is 2 black vinyls.5Excellent debut album! The debut album od Taylor Alison Swift is excellent! You can hear country pop melodies, songs that wont get stuck of your head like 'Picture to Burn' and 'Our Song'! The heartbreaking ballad 'Teardrops on my Guitar' is another great song! Taylor tells on her very first album problems and dreams of a typical teenage girl who is trying to find 'A Place in this World'! And yeah, she really did it wonderfully well! She's a huge popstar now and her past can't deny it!5that are relatable in more ways than you'd probably like to admitTaylor's debut album is 100% 2000's teen country, but it's all high quality and totally original songs, that are relatable in more ways than you'd probably like to admit. It's like a diary, that the world gets to experience and it's a wonderful CD.5Worth every cent!I actually bought this album after Fearless and Speak Now, and until I had it in my hands I had never heard all the songs, but I was very impressed with it. This is definitely the "country-est" album Taylor has released, and in my opinion it's a wonderful first album. The lyrics and music are filled with Taylor's feelings and stories, and the music and beats are really pleasant to hear. There are no fillers in this album. Now, about the Deluxe Edition that's quite expensive to get these days.... it is definitely worth the extra money! The lenticular cover is absolutely beautiful, and Taylor's first conversation with Tim McGraw is cool and funny to hear, they're both very funny. The DVD is very nice, too. There are images and videos that I bet you have never seen before, and Taylor is very humble and smart, it's very nice to listen to her talking. I say buy the Deluxe Edition if you have the chance, and don't be scared of the high price, it's an awesome purchase.5In a generation, she will stand with Carole King as a pop lyricist. Get to know her.Ms. Swift is a miraculous lyricist. Her lyrics are so plain, even conversational. Nothing highbrow or fancy. Yet she brings you right there to where she is. Age and gender are not a barrier, she lets you feel how she does. And charmingly, her lyrics clearly sound like they were written by someone the age she was when she wrote them. Her songs and voice are catchy and pretty, but they won't blow your mind. Still, she is in heavy rotation in the shop.5Simply wonderfulTaylor Swift has great music as per usual, and her debut album is no different. Everyone should give this album a listen at least once in their life.5This is a really good CDI bought this CD after Kanye West grabbed her mic from her during her VMA acceptance because I wanted to show support for her after he was such a jerk. I didn't expect that I'd be much into it because country isn't my primary forte (I'm more into Christian rock stuff), I'm old enough to be her dad, and I figured my kids would probably enjoy it. First of all she has an absolutely great voice. She is exceptionally gifted, whoever that other reviewer is that said she needs singing lessons knows not of what he speaks. The lyrics are very much in the vein of teen romance, but there is nothing wrong with that. To be honest it brought back memories of my high school days. It's much deeper than I expected coming from someone her age. Not because it's uncommon to experience hurt, and rejection at that age, but because it's hard to articulate it while keeping your perspective. Sure there's a few moments where her lyrics seem trite and self serving, but it's far better than most of what I've heard coming from that generation. All things considered I'd highly recommend this CD.5Jewel Case Arrived DamagedThe complaint here is that the jewel case for this CD arrived broken, with a small piece totally missing. Had it occurred during shipping the broken off piece would have been inside the padded envelope. Not so, which means an obviously damaged item was shipped to a customer. The CD itself was OK, so this situation is not worth the hassle of a return. I have many extra CD cases. It does indicate sloppy quality control to me. Otherwise, I would have rated this CD 5 stars, as I am a member of Taylor Nation, possibly the oldest. This album was cut when she was 16 years old. She wrote all the songs, and I am sure did most of the arraignments, beginning her fast rise on the way to becoming a self-made millionaire. I read through some of the complaints here -- Hey, lighten up, whiners. What would you expect a 16 year old girl to write songs about, anyway? She is one of the great songwriters; her target audience distracts the unaware from how truly great her lyrics really are.Kris Kristofferson said it all in an introduction at an award ceremony, her music speaks her truth. All you have to do is listen. Those critics of her voice itself should probably record themselves and publish on YouTube, so we'll all become enlightened. My advice is, if you don't get it, don't get it.4
