Pencils are not the same hardness as labeledI am a beginner in drawing, but wanted a basic pencil set and was somewhat disappointed with this set. In the case I got pencil hardness does not seem to be as indicated. For example B pencil is light and 2B is significantly darker (more like 5B), H is darker than B. If you are not planning on doing any significant shading then get a simple 1 pencil, however, with this set shading is difficult. I bought a set from Michael's and in comparison that set is much more precise and in it's gradual darkness progression. The case is a nice idea, however, aside from the little pad that comes with it, I could not find a standard dimension sketchbook that would fit there. So not very practical for reuse.I would not recommend this for a beginner artist, as it doesn't do the basic job. However, if you are buying an art set for a child, this might be the right one.
2The Perfect Pencils and Carrier Set (H, B, HB and 5H through 6B)Excellent starter kit +. Comes with eraser, sharpener, small drawing pad and H, B, HB amd 5H through 6B. They didn't come in order, which I thought was weird, but ... they are very good pencils, nice and sharp. The Zippered pencil case is thin and easily carry-able and comes with a carrying strap (attached on the inside, fold out to carry).
5For what it is, it works very wellA couple of this you should know before buying this case. It is very small, the pad inside is small (5x7 in). I keep this little case in my backpack and use it for quick little sketches. If you want something for some more serious drawing, I would recommend getting a case that can compensate a 10 in pad. The pencils and case is what you are really paying for here. While the pad is well made and the paper feels good to draw on, it is small and doesn't have very many pages (about 12 pages). You could easily fit a 5x7 pad in case that has more pages, but I would just aware of the elastic band that holds down the pad. Overall, if you need a starter kit to do little doodles and scratch, I would highly recommend this case.
4dry unusable caulk like paint.got several products from this company as I wanted to begin to learn to draw/paint ect. the other products so far are okay, but the acrylic paints are a failure. all of the paints are ultra dry in the tubes to the point that the end blew out of the red paint. the paint when it comes out smells like wall caulk and has the same texture. no amount of water was able to restore theses paints. i do not recommend
1A Good Set to Have for Drawing on the GoSo far, I like this set. It fits conveniently into my purse. The pencils come already sharpened, which saved me time. The eraser worked well. Better than my aged kneaded one, in fact. I'll use the included pad of paper for quick ideas on the fly, but not much else. It's too cheap, which I suppose is why this set is inexpensive. Also, I liked the quality of the case. It's made of durable materials that I hope will last for a few years.I'm giving this set a four-star rating because of the design of the interior. While it's very well organized, it's difficult to get the pencils out and to put them back in. I accidentally jabbed the tip of my thumb hard enough to draw blood when I attempted to put a pencil back into its holder. The good side to that is that I won't have to worry about the pencils coming lose and falling out.
4You'll need a replacement sketchbook on the quick, but an extremely great deal for the portabilityI'll be honest - I mostly bought this for the organizer, and that alone exceeded my expectations for the price. I wanted something I could take on the go without taking up much space in my bag. This is a nice, affordable, concise set, and it holds everything in place properly with absolutely no mess. Additionally, there is a strap inside the case that allows the set to be put over the wrist or fastened inside a bag.Everything in the set I have seems to be sewn down properly. The elastic bands have decent springback and a good grip, so I foresee it lasting quite a while. The case itself wipes clean from minor icks with just a little water. All of the items in the set fit where they should with no hassle. The only downside to this purchase is that the sketchbook is 12 pages long. It's 12 pages of pretty good paper, but still 12 pages. If anyone is looking for a replacement that still fits in their set, I've bought and used this one successfully and with no complaints: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0025TYZXM/The one listed above has a spiral edge - a much needed upgrade from the one included in this set.Really though, any 5x7 sketchpad will do. You could probably go a little longer, but not too much, because the pencil sharpener and eraser should have a place above the sketchbook to close properly. You shouldn't try to go wider than 5. At 5, the book of 30 pages I have now -just- fits.Edit 04/01/2017 - The sketch book I recommended above does have rough paper. It's best for drawing PRACTICE and not detail work. I'm currently looking for a smoother supplementary pad. I'll update when I find one.
5Threw away the pencils and kept the case. The pencils are ok, but a 5B hardness isn't all that usefulMakes a good case for the longer prefilled water color pens I like. The eraser is good, but the pencil sharpener turned out to be a point breaker, and the pad of paper was kind of useless.I didn't need the pencils just the case, and the case is excellent.
5Very nice! Love the carry case!I bought these for my son in middle school art class. He has a sensory issue with hard lead pencils, and these are perfectly soft! Can't beat the amazingly cool case they come with too! He took out the drawing pad and put his 24ct Arteza colored pencils in their metal case, inside this case, so his pencils are all together.
5NIFTYQuite a nifty case and rather well-made. Didn't see it described earlier but it's made of a black canvas material (probably polyester) over something stiff like cardboard and lined with nylon. The outside edges are bound, the zipper seems sturdy, and the stitching looks sound so it should last for quite a while. Also, there's a 6" loop strap sewn inside. The two elastic bands (top and bottom) do make removing the pencils a bit tricky; I prefer just one band. There is room for a couple of more pencils besides the 12 provided. Wish it were thicker and wider to accommodate a larger sketch pad; 5" x 7" top bound pads can be difficult to find. All in all, very good value.
5Decent pencils in good caseThe pencils are good--not great, but adequate for my needs, and the case is very nice and seems sturdy. It's very convenient to have everything easily kept in one place instead of scattered around. I imagine this would be great for traveling or outdoor sketching, although I haven't taken mine away from home yet.
