Exact replacementMy prior head just broke (but it was over 15 years old). Not from overuse, and I play light jazz--just broke. This was a good replacement. I do notice the Remo logo size has changed, but doesn't affect anything.5Golden standard for single ply headsThese heads have been around for quite a while. That pretty much says it. Great for brushes most musical applications. The coating aren't as durable as they once were but that's due to environmental concerns. Hard to go wrong with these.5Great vintage lookPurchased this to replace the factory head that a fill in drummer busted pushing it into a mic stand! Decided to add a custom logo to get that vintage look. Came out great and sounds great too. I added a hole reinforcement to this one, to hopefully keep from having it busted.5but it seems to be of solid quality and it sounds good on recordings (except for the buzzI put this on a snare drum - I did notice a bit of a rounder tone, but for some reason it's also kinda buzzy and I can't seem to tune the buzz out. I don't know if this is the snare's fault, or the remo head's fault, or mine. probably mine! I'm not a seasoned enough drummer to really be able to give you a full description of the head's effect on the tone of my drum, but it seems to be of solid quality and it sounds good on recordings (except for the buzz.) i sort of hoped it would sound AMAZING, but it sounds good. so that's good.3Great but Evans is betterThis head has great sound, and I was satisfied with the quality and price. After a couple weeks of moderate playing, the coating had already started to come off in the center, which doesn't really bother me but I know some people don't like it.Soon after I got this head, I bought an Evans UV1. The Ambassador is good, but the quality, durability, and sound of the UV1 far surpasses the Remo head.Bottom line: All hail Evans as the greatest drum head makers in the universe try the UV14Pedestrian At Best. These 14" Remo coated white drum heads are the equivalent of a Chevy Malibu; average, gets the job done, pedestrian at best. My point is these head are not bad but they are not as great as others would lead you to believe. Why? Let me count the ways.1. The metal collar surrounding the outside perimeter is lighter, larger and deeper than other brands. In my experience this affects how the head seats around the bearing edge and within the rim. End result? More difficult to tune. Also it's a tone killer with more unmusical ring.2. Some people love the classic glue cracking sound a new Remo head makes when tuning. In my experience this cracking causes the head to de-tune. It can take a week or two for a Remo head to adjust to the drum. Until then be prepared to re-tune mutiple times.3. The underside of the head is slightly textured. This affects how the head grabs the bearing edge. In my experience, another tone killer.4. The plastic film is different from other manufacturers. Difficult to explain but the end result is that it's more papery in feel and the overtones are not as musical.Again, these are not bad heads. Not my cup of tea, but usable. I realize most ham-fisted players won't a care bit.3Quality Keeps The CustomerI purchased my first Remo drum heads around the same time Ronald Reagan was sworn into office. Consistent quality and an ever-expanding line of products has kept me a satisfied customer since then. One of only a couple of manufactures that can fill and ship special sizes quickly and at a reasonable price. I would have given 5 stars, but the " clear " Ambassador is actually a bit hazy. Just a personal preference to have absolutely clear heads and not anything that diminishes the product quality.432 in. Remo drumheadI'm not a drummer, I play guitar. And I've been a beatles fan since I was 3 or 4 years old, even have an old Fan Club card from 1964 or so. Since I'm a longtime letterer and sign man, one day I was looking at Ringo's drums and thought "That would be cool to have hanging on the wall". So I scanned a good picture and cleaned up the original lettering (which was loosely done by hand) so my re-creation wouldn't be exact (but better, technically), and I altered the layout, which has the logo too low on the original. Anyway I cut that new art out in 3M vinyl and slapped it on there and it looks great. It's light and hangs from one small brad nail, and it can be backlit as well. So I'm happy!5WOW!!I ordered this head for my 12 inch tom that had an very old head on it, replaced it with the good old reliable Remo Ambassador Coated Drum Head, and it sounds amazing now, nothing like a new drum head to make a drum come alive. This is a perfect drum head for any style of playing, it's perfect for my set and helped my 12 inch tom come alive, amazing skin, with a classic retro sound. No wonder these heads have been around for many years and that pro's and non pro's around the world still use them. Can't beat the price, thanks Amazon!5It's the same good trusty ol' wonderful AmbassadorIt's a coated Remo skin. Can get tight and tasty near the rim, or produce a big fat dead blow. Nice scritchy-scratchy brushes sounds. Detunes so very well for that 'bwaoouuiing" noise. You can even put these on your toms, at the very least doubling your fun! And they're cheap enough that you can bang the crap out of them with little financial consequence if they split.Remo's quality hasn't changed appreciably during the 15 years I've been playing, far as I can tell, so there's zero reason I can't recommend this skin. There might be some more boutique pieces, but why, unless you're doing super serious session stuff in the studio?5
