Perfect for smaller settings, great feelThese are ideal for quieter / smaller settings. They are the perfect sized dowels in my opinion. I have tried bigger ones which were too loud and smaller ones, which were not durable. Given what they are, they do get shredded over time. You can reduce this by being aware not to catch them on the edge of cymbals, especially hi-hats. I usually lower my hi-hats a couple inches to help this out.5They are more brittle then i expected but i enjoyed the increased volume over the standard metal brushes that ...I have had these for a few months now and are my first/only pair of h-rods. They are more brittle then i expected but i enjoyed the increased volume over the standard metal brushes that I was using in jazz band. I often play with these late at night to keep my volume down but I don't recommend this because I have broken more then 6 of the individual wooden sticks. They are super bouncy and comfortable to play with. they also aren't light and dont feel cheap. The biggest problem outside of them chipping easily (which might be because im playing to hard with them) is that the wrap in the middle of the H-Rods picture (visible in the picture) is slipping out of place slightly and is revealing a black sleeve? im not sure why this is happing but its to tight to push back into place anyways. it might not even be a big problem but I thought I'd mention it.4Try Em! You can BEAT em....LOLSolid quality and a great product. I have been using the series of Rods from Promark for years, seven to be exact. They work fantastic, great sound and expression in lower dynamic situations. I have always found that the series Rods from Promark brings a tremendous amount of texture in their use. I have been playing professionally for nearly 17 years. They have worked great live, in the studio, or even for a low level practice or rehearsal. I highly recommend this product.5GoodBought these so I don't annoy my neighbors too much. While hitting the drums comfortably, the volume is about what I'd like it to be. After testing for a few minutes, I see no sign of wear so far. I found rimshots to be incredibly easy with these; on the other hand, cross-sticking is impossible. A few complaints: They sound really "pingy" on the toms, which makes it so you can hardly hear a pitch difference between different toms. And when crashing cymbals, they are significantly louder than the drums (this will just take some getting used to). Overall, they're great so far.4Perfect for quiet gigs!I purchased the Cool Rods to use at some Christmas parties I got called to play with a couple old pals. These were small parties - about 40 to 100 guests. No dance floor. All they wanted was low-volume background music; a mix of Christmas tunes, jazz, classic party tunes, etc. Keeping the volume down was essential. Our keyboard player left his rig at home and used the club's absolutely gorgeous 100 year old Steinway & Sons piano. Bass player used an acoustic upright. I used brushes for some songs and the Cool Rods when I needed a little more volume. Only thing amplified were vocals. The Cool Rods were perfect. I have Hot Rods and could have used those but I was definitely better off using the Cool Rods for such a low volume gig.5Promark rodsThese sticks are great. Not only these, but also the lightning rods and the hot rods. Never had the thunder rods but they are all the same just different diameters. I got the cool rods to use on a stripped down kit for acoustic music. If you play hard, the rods will eventually break but they are pretty durable and last longer than regular sticks if taken care of. Definitely recommend these for quieter playing/practice/acoustic applications. The cool rods are a little thin for my taste, feel like 7a's. I prefer the lightning rods or the hot rods which feel more like 5a's. But that is just preference. Compared to other brands, these are the ones to go with.5Work greatI am not accustomed to these types of sticks being an "old school" drummer, but these work nicely. There is a nice bounce to them so that they have the feel of regular sticks and work well for doing a double stroke roll etc. These are useful for playing a lower volume situation.5Great Alternative to Standard SticksThey have a great grip and are made well. If you look at the diametrical measurements in the description, what I am about to say is not 100% accurate, but it is my impression. The Cool Rods give the impression of being half the size of the Hot Rods. In other words, the C-Rods are basically a smaller, thinner version of the H-Rods.Like brushes, they should be played with a certain amount of finesse, meaning don't beat on them and expect them to hold up. On more than one occasion, I have seen heavy-handed drummers shred them and send pieces flying in every direction. They are not delicately made, but they are not for heavy pounding either. They will hold up only if you treat them like you want them to survive your session.5Thank GOD for Promark! What can one say about a product that out shines them all! I've been using these sticks for the past 6 years as a church drummer and had no complaints from the worship team or the congregation. I'm sorry to say I've tried other similar products and have found they don't compare to Promark's quality. We're doing songs from Lincoln Brewster, Paul Baloche, Robin Mark etc... these songs rock for the ROCK and I am able to play for the LORD as He has brought up to do! I'm glad I was able to do a Promark ad in Modern Drummer some 30 years ago because I'm still using their sticks today. Praise the LORD!5My daily driver for practice and small venuesI have them all, but c-rods are my favorite. The trick to these is to add another binder (similar to the smaller red binder near the center) closer to the tip to increase action, attack, and durability. I use a 2-in. binder about .5-in. from the tip. I've used drummer tape and masking tape, but shrink wrap (like they use) works best, stays put, and lasts longer. They still play light, but much faster and brighter. You can hear the ride and even pull rim shots. The downside is I use them so much, I have a hard time playing light with sticks...5
