Nice looking and sounding cymbal for a great value.First impression: This cymbal looks nice; a very bright finish, looks well made. Upon playing, something feels a bit different from the cymbal I replaced, which was a Zildjian ZBT. I feel like it is fair to compare these two cymbals, because HCS is Meinl's entry level cymbal and ZBT is Zildjian's entry level. They have a similar sound, but the HCS seems thicker and heavier. This may turn out to be a good thing, but right off the bat it is a little off putting. It just kind of threw me off. Overall, I'm happy so far. I'll update this review once I've played on it a bit more.UPDATE: After playing on this for just one week, I had to change my review from "like it," to "love it." The cymbal sounds great, and the uncertainties I had about it quickly faded away as I played it. Great cymbal, especially for the price!5What an amazing cymbal! The different tones that you can achieve ...Being a novice drummer I bought this cymbal by reading the reviews. What an amazing cymbal! The different tones that you can achieve I found were simply amazing! Some were even hypnotic. But what do I know I am just a novice. Did I mention I was playing in a band?5Great Complement for TimbalesI purchased this cymbal to compliment my timbales. I have used various cymbals including Paiste, Pearl, Zildjian, Sabian, etc., but had never purchased a Meinl cymbal before. First: I am pleased at the overall quality and finish. Although I have had it for less than a month, it has help up well with use leaving no residual marks such as oils from my fingers. Second: The sound is sharp as expected for the crash family of cymbals but the smaller size, 14", does not make it overpowering for salsa, songo and other Latin rhythms. I will be adding a splash cymbal to broaden the range of my cymbal use but am definitely pleased with this purchase.Disclaimer: I was offered a complimentary gift for this review.5Good value for what you payThis cymbal is decently price and sounds reasonable, which means it is good for beginner drummers. This cymbal is thick, meaning if you use it correctly, it should last you quite a while. Its thickness gives it its "gong" sound. If I were to name this cymbal, I would call it a "bung" (not a real word) instead of a "crash". It just doesn't give you that strong "pshh" sound when you hit it. I would give this product a 3.5 but that is not available.3Add a little splash to your soundsGreat little cymbal to augment cymbal collection. I happen to collect cymbals for their particular pitch and wash to usein playing. Lots of fun and makes it interesting. This little cymbal is perfect for that purpose. Ocasional little blast of sound..Well made and looks great too!!!5Cheap price, decent sound. 8/10 would bang againA lot of the reviews for this are divided. "Oh, it sounds great," and "sounds like a s***ty gong" come to mind. I bought it anyways. It is definitely a cheap buy, and still looks like an amazing cymbal. As for sound, it does sound pretty crappy. But it's still a great buy for beginner drummers, or drummer who just like to jam out in their basements/garage. Once you start to get a gig or two, you should consider going with a better cymbalUPDATE: I've had the cymbal for about 1.5 years, and it's cracked to the point where I can't play it anymore. It's MOST likely because of the way I've been hitting it, and NOT because of crappy manufacturing. As I look at my old review I think I was a bit critical. I've grown to love the bright sound of this cymbal, and will probably buy another one5meinl 8" cymbal8" splash cymbal is a very nice product. We have other Meinl cymbals that sound awesome. Came in perfect condition. I would recommend it to everyone. The only down side was the packaging. It came in one of those package envelopes. It should be mailed in a box. The mail deliverer shoved it in my mail box . It was undamaged. I would definately order more.5I like it!I am a beginning drummer, trying to put together a mini drum kit, and I decided to take a chance on buying one of these, rather than driving all over the place trying to find a store that had a good selection of cymbals. I am very pleased so far. I get a nice not too loud splash for ending fills, and I also get a pretty decent ride sound too.4Good bright china.First initial impressions like most of my Meinl cymbals I think it is too thick and because of that has less crash and more over tones. I can't really judge a cymbal the first day I get it though... So ill give an update soon besides that the only other cymbals I can compare it to are my Wuhan chinas. My Wuhan cymbals are uber dark and the Meinl as uber bright (Which is why I got them). It fits in perfectly with my other Meinl cymbals which is kinda weird (usually chinas don't fit in with traditional rides and crashes), but I kinda dig it.4Not So Crashy To My EarsIBought this based on reviews, video, and that I have the Meinl ride/crash, which like, as well as the very snappy hi hat set . This cymbal doesn't sound very good to me. It sounds more like a gong, or Big Ben. Was thinking that it would be higher pitched and more "shimmery" than larger crash/ride.2
