Customer Reviews

DULL DULL DULLI bought some of these back in 2015 and they were great. I bought them again in March 2017 and they were so dull that they made big holes in my quilt so I threw them all out, was too late to return them by the time I used them. Figuring on that I just got a couple of bad boxes I bought the, again in September 2017. OMG those are dull too. Trying to poke them into the quilt was so difficult that my thumb hurt. I should have opened them as soon as I got them but once again took it for granted that they would be okay, once again too late to return them 1Great safety pins for basting. However, I realized that #2 pins are easier to put on and off and should have gotten themI mistakenly ordered #1 curved pins, when #2 curved pins are a lot easier to do and undo when basting. Even using #3 curved work better. I only got these so I could fit on the Quilters Dream attachment to make it easier to pin. Epic fail, as the attachments are near impossible to attach. I am left with safety pins too small for what I need. At least I have a back up if I run out of my #2 curved safety pins.5Small and stiff.Much smaller than I expected. I guess I didn't know what size 1 meant. These are pretty small and difficult to go through two layers of fabric with batting in between. I made it work, but cursed each pin to get it closed. They killed my fingers because they are so small and fairly stiff. Now I'm in for a treat when I need to take them out! If you're planning to quilt with these (like the title says), take my advice and go bigger! Oh, and the 'storage case', is worthless. When you open it, pins go everywhere! No hinge on the case. Just a plastic lid sitting on a smaller plastic box.2Poor qualityI purchased these pins (2 boxes of the 300 count). I started pin basting my queen size quilt in preparation for quilting and found many pin heads in the box with no body attached to it. The body of the pin was not in the box either so they didn't come loose. Poor quality control in making sure what is being put in the box is a whole pin and not just a pin head.Next I found that many of the pins were dull and would not penetrate the quilt "sandwich". It wasn't a fabric issue since when I switched out the pin for another one it worked fine.Since I had 2 boxes I was able to find enough pins between the two boxes to complete the basting of the quilt. However, I cannot recommend this product. I actually expected a better quality product since Dritz is well known.2Large easy to use I am using these pins on small and large quilts and they are large (which I like) to go through so many layers easily and are especially helpful around the edges. 5damaged fabric Very poor quality! In the past they've been fine but these pins were terrible. Dull, snagged fabric, some wouldn't open properly. I could bend sections out so they'd open, but just tossed a number of the ragged and dull ones. Shame on Dritz!! 2Great for making a quilt sandwhichWorked great to baste a large quilt. Made it much easier to baste on a wood floor where I had a slippery surface for the pins to glide on. However, if you have to baste on a carpeted floor, these may not work for you. I only did that once, but the pins got stuck to the carpet and I had to take multiple ones out and re-pin. Since I don't like to baste on carpet anyways (hard to get everything straight) I still gave this 5 stars. Love these pins.5Okay pins, but received less than 300 usable pinsWife here: Pins work okay, but one of the 300 count box only had 266 pins it. Not happy with being shorted on the count, especially when you need about 1200 or more to baste a queen sized quilt. Additionally, there was another box of 300 that I just got that had 27 pins without a sharp point on them at all--just blunted metal. So that's a dollar spent on useless "pins" in just one pack. The amount of "dead head" pins over 6 boxes was 145 (out of a total expected 1200 pins, and that's not even cutting the packages that were short the 300 "pins" to start before removing the dead heads. That's not an acceptable level of "waste" or "slack fill" to push onto the consumer, Dritz. Very disappointing for such a well known brand with other high-grade products. Spent over $6 for metal immediately destined to go straight into my recycling bin.2Happy with Pins that stay safely closed. (You try writing a review about pins!)Okay, they are Basting Pins, (whatever "Basting" is) I bought these as I did not want to spend a small fortune for Baby Diaper Pins. I just wanted some large pins and was surprised at how hard they are to find in stores. Most come in large packages and are all mixed sizes. These are large pins and are great for fashion emergencies. Obviously I am not a seamstress so I'll admit it, now and then I need to use a pin when I can't find the button I need. I live by the saying, Necessity is the mother of invention. Pins, duct tape and super glue can be a single women's best friend! Great pins that do NOT pop open. The closure is very safe.5Good Quality Strong, easy to open and close and a nice big size for pinning quilts. Especially nice for the ones that have small pieces--they don't snag or break stitches when pinning through seams. 5Utilitarian for a variety of creative and household uses. Better than most pins. LOVE these and I don't sew anymore. I hung cloth over my window, and use it to hold up one corner to let in fresh air and light. I hung scarves over a rod from the ceiling. I use it to hold the scarves in place. I frankly don't know what else I've used them for, but I just ordered my second box. Pins these days are CRAP. At least these don't fall apart the minute you use them. Being curved, they are so much easier than regular pins. Very utilitarian. Now Dritz: can ya bring back GOOD pins in all sizes? I can't believe the crap coming from China. Urgh. But these are the best I've found for a wide variety of uses. Sewing too, I'm sure. 5Useful pinsI got this to secure any type of fabric sandwiches before sewing. It's interesting how a dent on one side is more user friendly. I bought size 1 specifically for thinner sandwiches and corners. The shorter length makes the stacking and securing better and easier.4Useless I've been happy with the size 2 pins I've ordered in the past but every single one of these size 3 are impossible to use. They will not pierce the fabric at all. Totally unusable. Do not waste your money. I would have given it a minus 1 if I could have. One star is too much. 1Not as advertised Very disappointed. These were not curved, basting pins as advertised. They were just regular safety pins. They were also very dull and did not pierce the fabric easily. 1Great for Medium Thickness QuiltsFor anyone who does quilting, you know you need about 10,000,000,000 of these during the quilting phase. This is our favorite size and these pins seem to work just fine.If you're doing very thin quilts, the Size 1 pins work great and are cheaper and if you use heavy batting, you'll need the Size 3 pins, but for general use, Size 2 seems to work best for us.5Three Stars Very hard to open, needle part is really thick (hard to put through the fabric). 3I like this size better than the 2 as I have ... I like this size better than the 2 as I have arthritis in my hands and wrists so I can work them better 5dullI found these pins to be dull when compared to the pins I have been using. When I looked more closely I could see that these pins have a larger diameter than my other pins and I think that explains why they don't pierce the fabric as easily. I thought perhaps I had received a bad batch but I bought more than one package of these and I found them to all be the same. These will work but I'll be using my other pins before I use these. Sure wish I could remember where I bought the other ones.3
